Established in 1824 when the Funks and Stubblefields staked their claims, our grounds have quietly witnessed over two centuries of the steady rhythm of nature, preservation, and legacy. What began as a humble home has become a historic sanctuary, surrounded by towering trees, wild grasses, and native wildflowers.

We honor those who came before us by preserving the simplicity and serenity of this space — no grand monuments, just honest earth, weathered stones, and the peaceful rustle of leaves overhead.

How We Serve

Funks Grove is a beloved, privately owned sanctuary cherished for generations.
The Stubblefield and Funk families are dedicated to making the Nature Spaces open to the public so that everyone can enjoy this area as much as we do.

Funks Grove Nature Spaces represents a harmonious blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and community spirit. It is an exceptional place to learn about nature and conservation. We facilitate a variety of programs and activities that promote environmental awareness, education, and stewardship.

Through dedicated conservation efforts, educational initiatives, and community involvement, Funks Grove Nature Spaces will continue to thrive, offering a sanctuary for wildlife and a cherished space for all who visit.

Reservations

The Picnic Shelter can be reserved for group events, such as field trips, birthday parties, and family gatherings. Groups of 10 or more people wanting to use the shelter need to make a reservation.
There is no charge. Donations are accepted.

If you do not have a reservation, your party may not be accommodated.

We also have an indoor meeting area that can be reserved for classes, presentations, and other group activities. There is no charge. Donations are accepted.

Field Trips

The Nature Spaces hosts many school and other organized field trips. The Picnic Shelter is first-come, first-serve, unless there is a reservation.

If you do not have a reservation, your party may not be accommodated.

We pride ourselves on the safety and facilitation of the groups who visit us.
It is very important that groups of 10 or more people planning a visit call the office to make a reservation. This ensures that we are able to accommodate those reservations and keep all participants safe.
